Frequently asked questions for new boiler installations
My 1960s Canvey bungalow has had three different boilers over the years. Is the system likely to be in good shape?
Probably needs at least a magma cleanse, possibly a powerflush. Older system pipework that’s been through multiple boilers tends to carry sediment from previous installs. We’ll inspect the system on the survey, check the water sample for sludge, and recommend whether a magma cleanse (included with every install) is enough or whether a full powerflush is needed. Powerflush would be quoted separately.
Do you handle the concealed-flue issue in older Canvey flat-roof properties?
Yes. If the existing flue runs through a cavity, ceiling void or flat-roof space without inspection hatches, current Gas Safe regulations require hatches before we can install. We’ll explain what’s needed during the survey and quote any hatch cutting separately. In some cases it’s easier and cheaper to reroute the flue externally, we’ll advise.
What's the right size combi for a Canvey bungalow?
For a 2-bedroom bungalow with one bathroom, a 24kW Worcester Greenstar 2000 (£2,260 fully installed) is almost always the right call. For a 3-bedroom bungalow or one with a separate shower room, we’d usually step up to a 28kW or 30kW Greenstar 4000 (£2,610 fully installed) for the higher hot water demand.
Do you install in Winter Gardens and Leigh Beck as well as central Canvey?
Yes. Full SS8 coverage. Most weeks we have other Canvey work on, so we can usually offer same-week survey appointments.
Can the install be done in one day on Canvey?
Most like-for-like combi swaps yes, in one day. If you’re converting from a system boiler with cylinder to a combi (more common in Furtherwick than central Canvey), expect 1.5–2 days because of pipework reconfiguration. We’ll confirm the timescale before booking.
