Kitchen Tap Replacement Cost: Labour, Parts and Your Quote

The cost of replacing a kitchen tap depends on the tap, the condition of the existing connections and access beneath the sink. Horndon Services’ standard plumbing labour rate is £90 per hour including VAT, Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm. That is not a fixed tap-replacement price: the tap, parts and any additional work must be allowed for in your quote.

If you are comparing prices, ask for a clear explanation of labour, supplied materials and exclusions. Our general plumbing service covers tap replacements, leaks and other everyday plumbing repairs across our Essex service area.

Key takeaways

  • Check whether a price includes the new tap or labour only.
  • Tell the plumber whether you have already bought a replacement.
  • Photos of the tap and accessible space below the sink help with planning.
  • An existing drip may need assessment before deciding on repair or replacement.

What changes the price?

The replacement tap. A basic mixer and a different style or specification will not necessarily cost the same or suit the same installation. Before buying, confirm that the tap suits the sink, connections and water system. A visually similar tap is not enough to establish compatibility.

Access. The working space beneath the sink affects how the job can be carried out. Let us know about tight cupboards, fixed panels, appliances or other obstacles. Do not dismantle fitted furniture simply to take a photograph; describe anything you cannot safely access.

Existing fittings. A replacement may require attention to connections or isolation arrangements as well as changing the tap itself. The condition of those fittings needs checking. Any extra work should be explained rather than treated as an assumed part of a headline price.

Should I repair the drip or replace the tap?

A drip alone does not establish that a whole new tap is needed. The practical choice depends on the fault, condition and availability of suitable parts. Tell us where water appears: from the spout, around the body, or beneath the sink. These are different symptoms and help us plan the visit.

If you want a replacement for appearance or ease of use, say so. If the aim is simply to stop a leak, we can assess the existing tap and explain the options before you commit to a replacement.

Can I supply my own tap?

You can tell us about a tap you have bought or are considering, but confirm suitability before arranging installation. Send the make, model and product details. Ask who will supply any connection parts and how product problems would be handled. Supplying a tap yourself does not make labour or additional materials free.

What should the quotation include?

  • Whether the work is a repair, like-for-like replacement or a changed arrangement.
  • Who supplies the tap and other materials.
  • The labour basis and total including VAT where a fixed quotation is agreed.
  • Any access, connection or isolation work identified.
  • How unforeseen work will be discussed before proceeding.

For evenings, weekends and bank holidays, call for an out-of-hours quote. See our rates for the published schedule. We cannot promise a particular completion time without assessing the job.

If the tap is actively leaking

If water is escaping beneath the sink, report that when contacting us rather than describing the job only as a replacement. If you can safely identify and operate the relevant isolation valve or internal stop tap, isolating the supply may limit leakage. Do not force a stuck valve or work near wet electrical equipment. Read our guide to stop taps and emergency leaks for more context.
